BISSELL CleanWell model codes: what to verify before buying

A CleanWell listing may show 4393, while BISSELL support pages also name 4394, 4395, 4396 and 4393A. That is enough to confirm a shared support family, but not enough to assume that every code has the same U.S. retail package, included accessories or offer terms. Check the exact code on the machine or order before relying on a comparison or warranty statement.

What BISSELL’s own records say

The current U.S. product listing identifies the reviewed machine as CleanWell model 4393. BISSELL’s U.S. CleanWell FAQ lists all five codes in its support heading, then answers its “What is the model number?” question with 4393. The official user guide is titled for the 4393, 4394, 4395 and 4396 series, and its setup page says standard accessories may vary by model. Those pages support shared CleanWell instructions; they do not publish a code-by-code U.S. package table.

One official manual link is itself inconsistent: the related-content label on BISSELL’s Error Codes page labels a related guide for 4393, 4395, 4396 and 4393A, while its 8442 link redirects to the PDF filename naming the 4393, 4394, 4395 and 4396 series. That mismatch is not proof that 4393A and 4394 are aliases, revisions or identical packages.

There is a useful regional distinction in BISSELL’s return FAQ. The U.S. 60-day return list names 4393, 4395, 4396 and 4393A, but not 4394. BISSELL’s Canada return FAQ names all five, including 4394. A return-policy list is not a product specification: it does not explain whether a code is a regional offer, a package difference or a revision. For a U.S. purchase, confirm the return terms attached to the actual seller and order rather than inferring them from another country’s list.

Separate the included fold-out box step from the permanent stair

BISSELL’s box-step assembly instructions apply to 4393, 4394, 4395, 4396 and 4393A. They say to use the included box step and show parts folded from a perforated cardboard insert. The same page says the permanent BISSELL litter-box step does not come with the machine. For the reviewed 4393, that confirms a fold-out cardboard access aid, not the separate permanent step or a manufacturer-specified ramp. Its dimensions are not stated, and BISSELL says it can help a nervous cat but cannot guarantee an individual cat will use the box. It does not replace the remaining code-by-code U.S. offer, package and image checks.

Do not transfer the 4393 box contents to another code

BISSELL’s exact 4393 product page names a CleanWell machine and describes its included supplies; the user guide separately cautions that standard accessories can differ by model. A seller’s photo of the 4393 bundle therefore is not evidence that a 4394, 4395, 4396 or 4393A offer contains the same number of waste-bag packs or the same mat. Ask for the exact model number on the carton or product label and an itemized list of what is in the box. Save the response with the receipt.

Keep the machine code separate from accessory numbers. The CleanWell waste-bag refills, stairs and mat are sold as accessories, not alternate automatic-box models. They do not establish that a machine with a similar-looking code has a different cleaning mechanism.

BISSELL’s model-4393 parts directory separates machine parts from waste-bin liners and optional stairs or mat. Its named repair items include the strainer, drum with liner, side cover, waste-bin assembly with perch, legs and 120V cord. That page is specific to 4393; do not use it as proof that a part fits another support code, and check the manufacturer’s current listing before assuming availability.

What the 4393 review does—and does not—cover

The CleanWell 4393 assessment is tied to the exact U.S. 4393 listing and the evidence available for that model. Its clumping-litter requirement, age and weight limits, app unknowns and unresolved bin-duration conflict should not be silently assigned to every support code. The shared series manual is helpful when maintaining a CleanWell, but the official support link label and the linked PDF filename differ about whether 4393A or 4394 belongs in the named family. BISSELL does not provide a complete exact-code comparison in the sources checked here.

If a listing or used machine identifies a code other than 4393, verify the code, package contents, seller’s return rules and applicable warranty before treating it as the same buying option. Until BISSELL publishes a code-level crosswalk, a missing distinction is a reason to ask—not a reason to guess.
