A useful fit for

A household that wants an enclosed drum and physical buttons, with cats that fit the 9.84-inch entrance and the maker’s cautious roughly 11 lb enclosed fit guidance. The FAQ states use for up to three cats, but emptying intervals shorten with use.

The main tradeoff

The three-cat maker claim is not an unattended-cleaning promise; no minimum age or minimum automatic-mode cat weight was confirmed from the exact reviewed page/manual set.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does a maker-rated three-cat enclosed plan satisfy a three-cat household, without extending the claim to a fourth cat?

Cumrige’s M4 FAQ states up to three cats and provides shorter illustrative drawer intervals as cat count rises; actual service still needs checking.

Does the M4’s cautious enclosed-cat weight guidance fit a cat at or below about 11 lb?

The FAQ recommends the enclosed M4 for cats around 11 lb or under; that is a fit guide, not a machine load rating.

Does the documented M4 plan suit bentonite clumping litter, rather than an assumed plant or crystal formula?

The page’s specific guidance favors low-dust clumping bentonite and a longer setting interval; unsupported litter varieties remain unknown.

The smaller enclosed fit is the key M4 tradeoff

Cumrige M4 uses an enclosed rotating drum with a front entry and a hand-emptied waste drawer. The current U.S. page lists a 95-liter chamber, 15-liter sealed drawer, a footprint of about 19.29 by 21.65 inches, and an overall height of 25.59 inches. Its entrance is about 9.84 inches wide. The body is not unusually wide for the group, but the enclosed interior narrows the fit question: a cat must be able to get through the opening and turn inside, not merely meet a printed maximum load.

The manufacturer FAQ says M4 is best suited for cats around 11 pounds or under because larger cats can have less turning room. That consumer-fit recommendation is narrower than the manual’s machine weight limit, so I would use 11 pounds as the cautious planning guide rather than treating the equipment limit as a promise of comfort. At the same time, the FAQ says one M4 can serve up to three cats. That is a published household-use claim, not a guarantee that the 15-liter drawer will last a fixed number of days. Cumrige’s example estimates about 14 days for one 11-pound cat, 7–8 days for two and 3–4 days for three; actual frequency depends on use and should be checked at home.

Simple local buttons, app control when wanted

M4’s three physical buttons make its control surface simpler than M2’s illuminated touch panel, while the Tuya app supports remote monitoring and cleaning controls over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. Cumrige says core operation can work without Wi-Fi, so the local controls are useful if the box sits outside network coverage. App use is optional for basic operation, but no connection means no remote status or app-based history. Choose a 2.4 GHz answer if your network is fixed to that band; the maker does not list 5 GHz-only support.

The sensor system is another real feature, though not a substitute for supervision or correct setup. The M4 page describes weight and infrared detection; its FAQ says a cat detected in the unit locks cleaning and that an approaching cat pauses a running cycle. It also describes a short wait before the cycle resumes. Those are manufacturer claims about the intended control behavior, not an independent safety test. Keep cats away during setup and maintenance and follow the supplied instructions rather than assuming any sensor makes an unattended cycle risk-free.

Use the litter it is designed to sift

Cumrige recommends low-dust clumping bentonite for M4 and suggests setting an app delay around 12 minutes so clumps can firm before sifting. Very light litter, oversized pellets and weak clumping can sift unevenly or stick in the mechanism. This is more specific than simply saying “clumping litter works,” and it matters for buyers who already use a plant-based, crystal or mixed formula. If that type is non-negotiable, do not assume the drum accepts it because it looks similar to another box’s litter.

Routine ownership is drawer checks, litter top-ups, and periodic disassembly of removable parts. The base contains electronics; the maker says not to rinse or submerge it. Its roomy drawer can make the refill interval less frequent than on a small tray, but it remains a consumable-bag routine rather than a plumbed system or self-emptying disposal route. The enclosed shell can help contain scattered litter and odors, but every cat exits differently and no product page can guarantee a tidy floor.

Choose M4 for the fit, not just the drawer

M4 is a reasonable candidate for a household that wants an enclosed box, uses firm clumping litter, prefers the simpler three-button layout, and has cats within the maker’s cautious 11-pound enclosure guidance. A multi-cat capacity claim can make the unit relevant, but it should be weighed alongside the shorter drawer interval at higher use. The M2 shares the broad enclosed rotary routine and has a different touch-control interface; the official pages do not support assuming that either panel makes one machine inherently easier for every owner. If a larger cat needs more open turning room, compare the M5 or E. If the cat count itself is an essential filter, keep M4’s stated limit separate from any bundle that happens to include a second machine.
