LitterMaid Classic Plus Self-Cleaning Litter Box (LM680C-02) review

Historical U.S. Classic Plus package with an open hard-clumping-litter rake, a paw ramp and eight waste receptacles plus eight carbon filters in the archived product listing and shared LM680C manual.

Historical owner reference for product number LM680C-02. Its archived Classic Plus page lists eight waste receptacles and eight carbon filters; that package count should not be mistaken for capacity or today's seller contents.

A useful fit for

A useful owner reference if your product label reads LM680C-02 and you need to identify the Classic Plus open rake and its historical eight-pair receptacle/filter package.

The main tradeoff

The larger starter supply count is a package distinction, not a larger tray or higher cat rating. The shared manual names LM680C rather than the -02 suffix, and current exact offers, parts and room-fit dimensions remain unconfirmed.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the LM680C-02 Classic Plus include more starter waste receptacles and filters than LM580 or LM980?

Its archived page and the shared LM680C manual list eight of each; the Classic LM580 and LM980 manual columns list four of each. This is a historical package difference, not proof that parts still fit or ship today.

Does the Classic Plus still depend on clumping litter and manual waste-bin service?

Yes. The manual describes hard-clumping litter swept by a rake into a disposable receptacle; the separate supply count does not change the cleaning mechanism.

Does its eight-pair supply package establish a numeric number of cats?

No. The page/manual give no numeric cat capacity; starter filters and receptacles are supplies, not a household rating.

Classic Plus is a package distinction, not a different litter system

This assessment covers the dated LitterMaid Classic Plus product page that prints manufacturer Product No. LM680C-02. Its shared 2014 Use & Care manual identifies the Classic Series model LM680C without the “-02” suffix. The product-page package code and the manual family are therefore both recorded; the manual by itself does not establish that every LM680C suffix had the exact same carton. Current product availability and replacement-part compatibility remain unverified, so this is a historical owner reference rather than a recommendation to buy a present offer.

The image is a small LM680C carton rendering with a staged cat, not a home-use photo or proof of a current seller's box. Use the printed LM680C-02 identity when asking about an old unit's parts.

Open tray, hard-clumping litter and a resettable wait

The Classic Plus uses the same broad operating plan as the other documented Classic rake models: an uncovered pan, motion sensors and a removable rake that moves clumps into a disposable waste receptacle. The manual directs owners to use premium hard-clumping litter and explicitly rejects crystal, pearl-like and non-clumping litter. A marketing label such as “self-cleaning” does not change the litter compatibility or the manual emptying of a receptacle. If your cat relies on crystals or a different litter texture, this is not the right operating system.

After the sensors register a visit and the cat exits, the manual says the unit waits 20 minutes before the rake starts. A re-entry during that interval resets the wait. It does not publish the total time from cycle start until the rake returns to its home position. The safety bar can stop and reverse the rake if it meets an object behind it, and the manual describes repeated attempts to clear a blockage before the unit reports a fault. These are design protections, not a guarantee that every cycle will complete without owner attention.

Eight original receptacle/filter pairs are the real upgrade

The archived LM680C-02 page says the package contains eight waste receptacles and eight carbon filters; the matching LM680C manual column also lists eight of each. It names a scoop/rake cleaner, an AC adapter and a paw-cleaning ramp. The manual describes the ramp as included with LM680C and LM980; it has carpet facing upward and can be detached for cleaning. The page also mentions extra-high sides and a removable rake for easier cleaning. Those features are package and care differences from LM580's four-pair column, not evidence of a larger litter capacity, a bigger entrance, a higher cat rating or longer unattended service.

The power arrangement is not cordless. The adapter is the normal household power source, and eight AA cells are for backup during outages only. The manual explicitly says the batteries are not intended to run the unit continuously. A household that needs reliable operation away from an outlet should consider a different exact operating plan rather than counting on battery power.

Cat fit and the practical maintenance routine

The manual's six-month warning for clumping litter applies to LM680C: it says not to operate the automatic box for a kitten younger than six months and to keep the unit off until then. It also says the design is not intended for some older, handicapped or incapacitated cats that may have difficulty getting in or out. No numeric household cat capacity, upper weight guide, entry width, headroom or labeled room-fit dimensions were found for this exact package. Do not turn eight bags of starter supplies into a cat-count rating. Measure the actual unit and approach path and follow the cat's ability and comfort rather than assuming the ramp solves every mobility need.

The cleaner is a tool for spot maintenance and removing litter between rake teeth. The manual also calls for weekly cleaning and a more thorough monthly clean. Keep the motion-sensor surfaces free of dust, don't overfill past the tray marks, and check a stuck rake or fault rather than assuming the box has completed a cycle. The waste bin and carbon filter still need service. I could not confirm that a current replacement set is available for LM680C-02 or that any present consumable pack fits it.

How the answers change the shortlist

If you value a larger original supply set, the LM680C-02 is the Classic option documented with eight receptacle/filter pairs and a ramp. If you need a verified number of cats, an exact entrance measurement, an inclusive upper weight or a full clean under a deadline, it cannot answer those questions. The optional filter for a minimum number of included pairs treats the old package count as a sourced carton detail; it is not a present offer and should not be used to rank modern litter boxes with different waste systems.

For a current purchase, compare the separate PetSafe ScoopFree Clumping assessment if you want a clumping rake, or compare a current clumping sifter if your preferred maintenance routine involves rotating separation. Those alternatives do not inherit the LM680C ramp, its receptacle quantity, its manual, or its replacement parts. Select based on the exact current product page and manual, and check the package list at the seller before ordering.

Bottom line for the LM680C-02

The exact historical package is useful to recognize: open hard-clumping rake, removable teeth, wall-and-ramp details, a 20-minute resettable wait and eight starting receptacle/filter pairs. The “-02” suffix is tied to its archived product page, while the shared manual names the LM680C family without that suffix. That identity caveat matters for parts and cartons. Treat this page as practical guidance for an owner, not a promise about current stock, consumables, cat capacity, dimensions or seller contents.
