Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the LME9000 “multiple cats” description provide a numeric household rating?
No. The exact page uses “multiple cats” and “larger cats over 15 lbs” without naming a count or numeric upper weight.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the LME9000 manual support crystal or non-clumping litter?
No. The Elite manual specifies premium hard-clumping litter and rejects crystal, pearl-like and non-clumping litter.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the shared Elite manual prove an LME9000 carton includes four receptacle/filter pairs?
No. It says the amount of waste receptacles varies and filters are supplied with certain models; the dedicated four-pair schedule belongs to LME9000MB.

The LitterMaid Elite 9000 is a distinct model whose archived U.S. product page prints Product No. LME9000. Its manufacturer copy calls it suitable for “multiple cats or larger cats over 15 lbs.” That phrase is useful for recognizing the intended positioning, but it does not state a household maximum number of cats or a verified weight ceiling. Neither “multiple” nor “over 15 lbs” is a numeric capacity specification. If a cat count or body-weight limit is essential, leave it unresolved rather than treating the product name as a rating.
The image shown for this assessment is the exact product-specific LME9000 image preserved from the official page archive. At 150 by 150 pixels, it is a small studio product rendering, not an owner photograph or evidence of current condition, actual scale or current carton contents. An older seller listing should be checked against the full LME9000 product number before assuming that similar-looking LitterMaid parts fit.
Clumping rake operation and timing
The LME9000 has an open tray with a powered rake that moves waste clumps to a disposable receptacle. Its archived product page describes a ten-minute post-exit wait; the shared Elite manual explains that sensors need to be blocked for at least five seconds, the timer starts after the cat leaves, and another visit during the wait restarts the ten-minute countdown. The rake then begins a cleaning cycle. Ten minutes is the pause before motion, not an advertised total cleaning time. The manual does not say how many minutes a complete rake movement takes.
There is also a sleep timer. The product page and manual describe a nine-hour period when the rake is held at rest; after it ends, the unit performs one raking cycle and resumes normal operation. That setting can be useful if you want to avoid scheduled movement during a particular quiet period, but it changes the interval before waste is moved. It does not increase the receptacle's capacity or eliminate regular checks.
The manual describes a bar that stops and reverses the rake if it contacts an object as it returns. If it encounters a larger obstacle, it makes several attempts before returning to its home position and blinking a fault indicator. These instructions make the unit easier to troubleshoot, but they should not be read as a guarantee that the rake cannot jam or that it is appropriate for every cat. The manual cautions against use with kittens younger than six months and cats that may have difficulty entering or leaving the box.
Litter compatibility and physical fit are still narrow questions
The Elite manual specifies premium hard-clumping litter and rejects non-clumping, crystal and pearl-like litter. The rake, tray and receptacle are one operating plan: clumps are pushed into a disposable bin with a carbon filter. The box does not become compatible with crystals because a similarly named product elsewhere uses a different litter tray. If a cat needs non-clumping litter or a specific tray format, that is a reason to compare a different exact model.
The 9000's multi-cat/larger-cat statement is not a substitute for measurements. No labeled footprint, entrance width or headroom was located in the exact archived page and manual. Measure a used unit yourself, and consider the approach and room to remove the receptacle. The manual's paw ramp can help collect litter from paws on models that include it, but its supply list calls the ramp model-dependent and the box contents variable. The available evidence does not establish that an LME9000 carton always included a ramp.
Routine care remains hands-on: monitor the receptacle and filter, keep the sensors clear of dust, clean the rake and tray, and clear an obstruction when the unit indicates a problem. The manual lists an AC adapter for ordinary power and eight AA batteries for backup during a power outage, not as continuous battery operation. It identifies LME9000-specific tray and receptacle-cover parts, but that documentation alone does not prove current stock or that a replacement part is interchangeable with an LME9000MB.
How it differs from LME5500 and LME9000MB
The closest evidence-based comparison is between documentation sets, not an assumed size ladder. The LME5500 page says one cat; the LME9000 page uses unnumbered multiple-cat and larger-cat language; neither page supplies exact body dimensions or a numeric weight range. The dedicated LME9000MB manual lists its own model-specific parts, a ramp and four starter receptacle/filter pairs. The shared LME5500/LME9000 manual says package quantities vary and the ramp appears on some models. It would be a mistake to transfer the MB's starter quantities to this LME9000 just because the model names are close.
This is a reference for someone identifying an existing box, not a current purchase recommendation. For a present-day open clumping-rake comparison, see the separately reviewed PetSafe ScoopFree Clumping; it has its own cleaning system, limits and supplies. If you need a verified number of cats, a maximum fit dimension or an exact seller's starter kit, use a current product whose manual states that requirement directly. The old LME9000 page does not answer those questions.
