Whisker Litter-Robot 5 Pro review

The five-cat Litter-Robot 5 platform with integrated dual cameras, WasteID and camera-based activity features.

Sources checked 2026-10-23 · Our editorial approach

This is the camera-equipped version of Litter-Robot 5, not a different cleaning mechanism. Whisker lists identical 3–30 lb and up-to-five-cat fit guidance for both 5 models; the Pro adds integrated dual cameras. Confirm the exact package and app terms.

A useful fit for

A sensible choice if you want the full Litter-Robot 5 cat-capacity, size and WasteID package plus built-in camera views.

The main tradeoff

Its 29.6-lb empty weight and 22-by-27-inch footprint are shared with the larger family. Camera-based cat identification and extended insight features depend on Whisker+; privacy settings and current membership terms deserve a deliberate check.

Your needs, this model

Does it fit your priorities?

Does the 5 Pro have built-in cameras rather than requiring a separate camera?

Yes. Whisker lists two integrated cameras with night vision for live streaming, recording and activity tracking. Cat identification and deeper histories can require Whisker+.

Does the Pro keep the standard 5's five-cat and 30-pound upper guidance?

Yes. The manufacturer comparison lists the same up-to-five-cat and 3–30 lb fit guidance for the two Litter-Robot 5 models.

Does the Pro add a smaller footprint than the standard 5?

No. Both are listed at 22 by 27 inches; the compact EVO is 20.6 by 24.3 inches.

Is WasteID only on the Pro?

No. The regular Litter-Robot 5 also lists WasteID, so camera use is the clearest hardware distinction between these two current models.

The Pro's real difference is the camera system

Litter-Robot 5 Pro is not a different cleaning mechanism from Litter-Robot 5. Both use a rotating globe to sift clumps after a cat leaves, and both have WasteID, an LCD screen and the same published 22-by-27-inch footprint. Whisker rates both for up to five cats and cats from 3 to 30 pounds. The Pro's clearest hardware distinction is two integrated 1080p cameras with night vision for viewing and recording activity around the box.

That difference matters only if you want a visual record or camera-based cat identification. Whisker describes basic streaming and recorded events in the app, while facial identification and deeper individual insights depend on Whisker+ features. Membership benefits can change, so check current terms rather than pricing the box as if every insight is included forever. If you do not want a camera near the litter area, the standard 5 has the same stated capacity and WasteID without the integrated camera system.

What the common 5 platform provides

The Pro shares the 5's clumping-litter sifting system and WasteID. The manufacturer says WasteID can distinguish urine from solid waste and change the cycle timing: it can allow urine clumps to form before sifting and move more promptly after solid waste. This is a specific waste-management feature, not a medical monitor. Its app records visits and weights, and Whisker says some insights become more accurate after the device learns the household's patterns. None of those measures should be treated as a diagnosis or as a replacement for observing your cat.

Whisker lists a ten-day maximum drawer interval in a one-cat household. That is a manufacturer claim under its usage assumptions, not a schedule to rely on with multiple cats. The drawer can fill sooner depending on number and size of cats; check it regularly and keep the area clean. The 5 Pro is not a “no maintenance” appliance: it still needs compatible litter, replacement liners and filters, and periodic cleaning of the globe and sensing areas.

Footprint, entry and weight

The Pro measures 22 inches wide by 27 inches deep and 29.9 inches high. Its entry is 15.75 inches square, interior headroom is 17.5 inches and the listed step is 7 inches. Empty weight is 29.6 pounds. Those dimensions match the standard 5, but the Pro is slightly heavier. Measure the room, drawer access and doorway route before choosing it. A camera feature does not make the enclosure smaller or lower to step into.

The published 3-to-30-pound range is the manufacturer's fit guidance. Whisker says cats under 3 pounds may not trigger automatic mode reliably and describes a supervised semi-automatic routine for kittens below that threshold. Follow the model's current instructions. For any cat who is uncertain about enclosed boxes or moving equipment, introduce it gradually and keep the previous box available during the transition; no camera or app feature guarantees acceptance.

Privacy and ongoing app considerations

Whisker says the Pro's cameras can be turned off and recordings can be deleted in the app. It also notes that a person can be recorded if they enter the camera's view with a pet. That is worth considering before placing the unit in a shared or visible room. Camera-based cat recognition works from visual features and is different from the standard models' weight-based tracking. If two cats look alike, the manufacturer does not promise perfect identification; the app's learning and membership features are part of the experience.

Connectivity is useful for alerts and remote views but is not a reason to skip local checks. Whisker's current Pro page says it supports 2.4- or 5-GHz Wi-Fi. Confirm your home network and app requirements. If you would rather avoid video, use the standard 5's non-camera hardware or compare the EVO if reduced size is more important.

Who should compare another model?

Choose the Pro when its live and recorded views serve a real household need, you are comfortable managing camera privacy, and its membership-dependent features fit your budget and expectations. Choose the standard Litter-Robot 5 when you want the same WasteID and five-cat guidance without integrated cameras. The EVO is shorter and narrower but supports up to two cats and has smaller entry and interior dimensions. The LR4 provides a configurable optional LitterHopper path and ongoing litter-level monitoring but does not have WasteID or built-in cameras.

Before buying, compare the exact package, color, seller return terms and membership scope. The manufacturer feature list is useful for selecting between models, but it is not an independent test of camera accuracy, odor performance or how an individual cat will behave.

Litter and care limitsWhisker recommends standard-weight clumping clay. Small silica crystals may work if they pass the screen, but translucent or white litter can reduce level and drawer-indicator accuracy. Non-clumping or loose-clumping, newspaper-based and wood-pellet litters are not supported; many plant-based litters may not sift correctly.
