Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is EVO the smaller Litter-Robot footprint?
Yes. Whisker lists it at 20.6 by 24.3 inches, compared with 22 by 27 inches for the standard 5, 5 Pro and 4.
Explore this need in the finder →Does the maker list EVO for a two-cat home?
Yes. Whisker lists it for up to two cats; the maker's single-cat drawer interval claim is up to seven days, and actual use can require more frequent service.
Explore this need in the finder →Does EVO provide WasteID or a built-in dual camera?
No. The model comparison lists neither WasteID nor integrated cameras for EVO. The 5 adds WasteID and the Pro adds cameras.
Explore this need in the finder →What is its published step height?
The manufacturer comparison lists a 5.6-inch step. The measurement does not establish that a specific cat can or will use the entry.
Explore this need in the finder →The Litter-Robot EVO is Whisker’s smaller, simpler rotating-globe option: it fits a two-cat household by the company’s guidance, uses an app, and occupies less floor space than the Litter-Robot 5 models. That smaller footprint comes with tighter weight and capacity guidance, a lower entry step but a smaller opening, and fewer connected features. Its strongest case is a household that wants automatic sifting and values the room it saves more than cameras, waste recognition or detailed litter-level monitoring.
A smaller footprint changes the room-planning calculation
Whisker lists the EVO at 20.6 by 24.3 inches and 27.6 inches tall. The 5 and 5 Pro are 22 by 27 inches and 29.9 inches tall, so the EVO trims about an inch and a half in each floor dimension and a little over two inches in height. That can matter when the box has to sit beside a vanity or under shelving. It is still a substantial machine, not a tray that disappears into a narrow corner. Leave practical room to remove and empty the waste drawer, lift the bonnet for care, and approach the unit; the footprint alone is not a complete placement plan.
The opening is listed as a 14.85-inch square, with 14.5 inches of interior headroom. Those measurements are smaller than the 5’s 15.75-inch square entry and 17.5-inch headroom. A cat that prefers more room to turn may be better served by the larger globe even if the EVO fits the floor plan more neatly. Measure the path to the chosen spot and compare your cat’s posture and shoulder width with the actual opening rather than treating “compact” as a promise of comfortable fit.
Two cats is a ceiling to plan around
The manufacturer describes EVO for up to two cats and gives a 3-to-19-pound range. It is not the natural pick for a three-cat home or a cat above the listed upper range; the Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro are rated for up to five cats and have a wider 3-to-30-pound guide. The Litter-Robot 4 occupies a middle position in Whisker’s current range, with a four-cat comparison-chart rating, although its product FAQ and chart differ about a strict upper weight limit.
These published ranges are useful screening boundaries, not evidence that a particular cat will accept a globe-style box. The EVO’s entry step is about 5.6 inches—lower than the 5 family’s seven inches—but the opening and headroom are also tighter. If entry height is the deciding factor, the lower step may be helpful; if your cat needs room to pivot or already dislikes enclosed spaces, the smaller entrance may work against that advantage. There is no independent fit or acceptance test behind this assessment.
Automatic sifting, without the 5 generation’s recognition features
EVO uses Whisker’s rotating-globe sifting cycle: after a cat leaves and the unit’s cycle begins, litter is separated from clumps and waste is moved to the drawer. You still have to check and empty the drawer, replenish litter, and clean the parts on the schedule in the manual. The advertised “up to seven days” is a one-cat interval, not a multi-cat service promise. In a two-cat home, expect to check it more often and let actual drawer fullness set the routine.
The connected feature set is deliberately more basic than the 5 models. The EVO’s app reports visits and weight-related activity, but it does not add WasteID, integrated cameras, or the ongoing litter-level readings listed for the 5 family. Its drawer-full notification is different from a measurement of how much clean litter remains. The Litter-Robot 5 adds WasteID and broader litter monitoring; the 5 Pro adds the built-in dual-camera system. If any of those capabilities is essential, EVO should fall out of the shortlist rather than being treated as a lower-cost substitute with equivalent tracking.
Litter and kitten constraints still apply
Whisker recommends clumping litter for the sifting system. The guidance for the reviewed models also rules out non-clumping, loose-clumping, newspaper and wood-pellet litter; some alternative plant-based litters may not sift reliably. Small crystals can pass through, but white or translucent material can interfere with sensing. Switching to whatever litter is already in the cupboard is therefore not always a neutral choice: check the instructions and budget for an appropriate clumping type.
The automatic mode is guided by a three-pound minimum. For a kitten below that threshold, Whisker’s instructions call for supervised semi-automatic use rather than assuming the sensors will register every visit. A multi-cat home with one very small kitten should treat this as a household operating constraint, not just compare the heaviest cat with the upper range.
Who should choose it—and who should compare up
Choose the EVO when its 20.6-by-24.3-inch floor footprint and lower step solve a real space or access constraint, your household is within Whisker’s two-cat and weight guidance, and app visits plus drawer-full status are enough. It can make more sense than a feature-rich model whose extra monitoring you would not use. Read our Litter-Robot 5 review if you want a roomier entry, five-cat guidance, WasteID or ongoing litter-level information. Compare the 5 Pro only if its cameras are useful to you; the camera and potential membership features do not reduce its footprint. For a previous-generation option, our Litter-Robot 4 review covers its distinct four-cat chart rating and the unresolved weight-guide conflict.
Pass on EVO if your cat is outside its published range, your home needs capacity for more than two cats, or a smaller entrance is a poor match. It is not the answer to every cramped room, either: confirm the full unit clears the location and service path. Its value is specific—automatic rotating-globe sifting in a somewhat smaller body—not a smaller version of every capability found in the premium models.

| Litter and care limits | Whisker recommends standard-weight clumping clay. Small silica crystals may work if they pass the screen, but translucent or white litter can reduce level and drawer-indicator accuracy. Non-clumping or loose-clumping, newspaper-based and wood-pellet litters are not supported; many plant-based litters may not sift correctly. |
| Exact-model and package notes | The product page lists black SKU LRE-0101-00-US and white SKU LRE-0301-00-US. Whisker describes this as a compact two-cat model, with 3–19 lb guidance. Its app reports drawer-full status but the comparison chart does not list litter-level sensing. |
