Model differences
Litter-Robot 5, 5 Pro and EVO: what the differences mean
The current Whisker family uses the same broad idea—an enclosed globe sifts clumps after a cat leaves—but the models do not offer the same room, household capacity or connected features. This comparison follows the standard Litter-Robot 5, its camera-equipped Pro version and the smaller EVO. The Litter-Robot 4 review covers the configurable prior generation and its optional Hopper choices.
Start with room and cat capacity
The Litter-Robot 5 and 5 Pro share a 22-by-27-inch footprint, 15.75-inch-square entry and 17.5 inches of interior headroom. Whisker lists both for up to five cats weighing 3 to 30 pounds. They are the most capacious of this three-model set by the maker's stated range, but their chassis is not small. Both weigh close to 29 pounds empty.
EVO is 20.6 by 24.3 inches and 27.6 inches high, with a 14.85-inch-square entry and 14.5 inches of headroom. Its step is also lower. Whisker describes it for up to two cats and a 3-to-19-pound range. Those measurements may help in a small room, but the smaller interior is part of the bargain. Check your cat's shape and entry needs rather than treating “compact” as universally easier.
Waste recognition versus camera views
Both Litter-Robot 5 models list WasteID, which distinguishes urine from solid waste and changes the cycle timing. That capability is not listed for EVO. The Pro's added hardware is an integrated dual-camera system; the standard 5 is not a camera model. If you only want waste recognition and weight/visit tracking, the regular 5 already covers those features according to Whisker's comparison chart.
Camera features bring separate privacy and account questions. Whisker says basic live viewing and recorded events are available in the app, while visual cat identification and deeper insights can require Whisker+. Check current membership terms, retention choices and camera controls. A camera's recorded activity is not a health diagnosis.
What the drawer claims do—and do not—tell you
Whisker gives the 5 and Pro an “up to ten days” single-cat drawer interval, compared with up to seven days for EVO. Treat those as manufacturer claims under a one-cat usage scenario. The number of cats, their size and box habits affect how quickly the drawer fills. These figures are useful for comparing the family, but not a reason to delay checking a full-drawer indicator.
The 5 and Pro list ongoing litter-level monitoring; EVO is listed with a full-drawer notification. If you want to check how much litter remains in the globe from the app, that distinction is more useful than comparing screen size alone. All three support app features and require compatible litter, power, cleaning and periodic service.
Three practical choices
- Choose the standard 5 if the full-size footprint works, five-cat/3-to-30-pound guidance matters, and WasteID is useful but video is not.
- Choose the 5 Pro if its camera views are a real priority and you accept the account, membership and privacy questions.
- Choose EVO if the smaller body is a hard space requirement and the lower capacity, smaller entry, lower headroom and feature omissions fit your household.
None of these choices removes the need to confirm package contents, transition the cat gradually and maintain the appliance. If none satisfies an essential measurement, do not loosen that requirement to create a match. Compare another manufacturer's opening or a conventional tray instead.
