A useful fit for

A single-cat household that wants an open-top rotating sifter, uses sifting-compatible clumping litter, can accommodate the entrance height and prefers app-connected controls.

The main tradeoff

This exact listing is designated for one cat; individual-cat tracking is not included as confirmed. The open chamber still moves, the 13.8-inch entrance is high, and the maker’s manual and product page disagree on dimensions and default delay.

The single-cat Open-X is not an ordinary open pan

CATLINK’s Scooper Open-X (Single-Cat) has an open top but still uses a powered rotating globe and litter screen. The chamber moves after use so clumps are sifted into a waste drawer. Unlike a fixed open tray, it has a moving cycle, a filter to keep clear and washable parts. The exact U.S. dark-gray listing has Shopify SKU CL-CH-01-black-1; the multilingual manufacturer manual identifies the hardware as CL-CH-01.

This edition is the clearest Open-X choice if the home has one cat and a single-cat app profile is enough. CATLINK’s exact page says this version is designed for single-cat households. It also says multi-cat recognition can be unlocked in the app after purchase for a one-time fee. The separate listing titled Multi-Cat uses confusingly similar copy, so do not treat the two titles as proof of what software is included: if you need visits distinguished by cat, get the exact edition and included app capability confirmed before checkout. The Single-Cat listing itself does not include a confirmed multi-cat identification feature.

Open access has a high threshold

The wide open top may suit cats that dislike entering an enclosed globe, and the visible litter surface is easy to inspect. The chamber sides still rise and rotate, so this is not a low-sided tray and cannot guarantee that a cautious cat will accept an automated motion. CATLINK lists an assembled size of 25.6 × 23.6 × 27.5 inches and an entrance height of 13.8 inches. That is a meaningful climb for a short-legged or mobility-limited cat; do not rely on broad “senior and kittens” wording without checking your cat’s reach. CATLINK sells a separate Open-X-compatible ramp, but the Single-Cat box page does not include it in the package list.

Room measurements deserve a second look. The U.S. page gives the larger assembled dimensions above, while the CL-CH-01 manual lists 585 × 534 × 592 mm and warns specifications can vary. I could not reconcile them. Start with the U.S. page, leave service space and confirm the exact shipment if it must fit a tight alcove. The manual’s 21.4-pound figure is the unit weight; the product page’s approximately 48.5 pounds describes packaged shipment.

Check the litter before replacing the old box

The product page says the Open-X works with clumping litter, and the associated manual’s app screen offers bentonite and mixed-litter selections. CATLINK’s FAQ says litter particles must fit through the screen, and warns against non-clumping, wood-pellet, newspaper and long tofu types. For this model, the safe reading is “a sifting-compatible clumping litter,” not every litter sold as clumping. Start with a small-particle clumping texture, fill to the MAX line, and level the bed after each refill. The manual’s setup illustration calls for four liters. A cat that needs a non-clumping or large-pellet material may be better served by a different design.

Cleaning instructions matter because the machine has several removable parts. The manual says to install the four support legs, set it on a firm level surface with clear space around it, place a liner smoothly in the waste bin, and fit the filter screen. After each refill, press the level control or let the unit level for the short automatic interval. Before using the empty-litter command, empty the waste drawer first so it does not overflow. The globe, side covers, waste bin and deodorizing box can be washed and must dry completely; the powered base must not be washed and should only be wiped. A disposable bag, refill and wash cycle are still part of ownership.

Automatic limits and the app are not extras

The manual rates the CL-CH-01 family for cats from 1.5 to 10 kg, while CATLINK’s U.S. FAQ uses a slightly higher 3 lb 8 oz lower weight and the same 22 lb upper figure. The manual says kittens younger than six months or under 1.5 kg should use Kitten Mode only; the U.S. FAQ’s younger age statement does not remove that stricter manual boundary. A cautious automatic-mode plan is therefore six months or older and at least 3.5 lb, with a maximum of 22 lb. If your cat falls outside that range, use the manufacturer’s manual/kitten setting and supervise, rather than assuming an open top makes an automatic cycle suitable.

CATLINK describes a 12-liter drawer and up to 15 days for one cat; treat this as an estimate, not a fixed emptying interval or reason to leave it unchecked. The manual says the bin should be emptied before a full-litter command. It gives a five-minute default delay, while the product-page FAQ says three; verify the actual setting in the app. The U.S. listing advertises 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, but the manual says special-authentication hotel or airport networks are unsupported.

Who should choose this exact edition?

The Single-Cat Open-X is most defensible for one cat that accepts a raised open chamber, meets the conservative automatic-use age and weight limits, and uses a fine clumping litter. Its 12-liter drawer, app connectivity and washable chamber may reduce daily scooping, but they do not remove setup, sensor, bag and cleaning chores. The open-top PetSafe ScoopFree OpenSky is another rotating sifter to compare; its product page gives a higher 33-pound upper cat-weight guide, while Open-X advertises a larger drawer and dual-band Wi-Fi. If a covered chamber is acceptable, PetSafe SmartSpin is a different enclosed alternative. Choose the Open-X only if its entry height, moving parts, litter screen and exact app edition all work for the cat and room—not just because “open-top” sounds simple.
